ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2010
VOTE JOE LI

Hello friends and residents of Markham. My name is Joe Li and I am interested in representing you and working with you to turn Markham into a dynamic and vibrant community in Ontario.

My priorities are traffic and transportation, crime prevention, and environmental innovations by promoting and sustaining a green and clean environment in our community as we would all like it to be. I recognize that you may have other priorities and therefore I am very interested in meeting you and discussing your concerns. Your input and ideas are important so please join me in this endeavour.

I am confident that I can provide Markham with the representation it needs. I was born in India, and like many in our community, I came to Canada with hopes and dreams. During the initial years, I had experienced the same challenges that many newcomers face in coming to a new country.

In 1984, my wife, Yvonne, and I came to Canada where we raised our three children, Francis, Melvin, and Phyllis. Upon arrival, I entered the life insurance industry, utilizing my entrepreneurial and managerial skills in building a successful Financial Services Agency. Since then I have long been involved with the works of various community organizations and groups. In 2003 the Ontario Government appointed me to be one of the board advisors of the Ontario Super Build Corporation, which oversees the funding of hospitals, university expansion, and other cultural and infrastructure projects.

Besides English, I am conversant in Swedish, Hindi/Urdu, and various Chinese dialects such as: Hakka, Cantonese, and Mandarin. I believe I bring the proper perspective to represent the entire Markham community. I look forward to meeting you and working with you to make Markham, the most innovative and progressive community in Ontario.
